One had a hook, peg-leg and eyepatch, and was holding a map, and the other looked more like a French (Blue-coat) gentleman, with an eyepatch and peg-leg, and a Treasure chest.
It was Buy one, Get one, so I bought them both for $20.00. Now they're consulting their little map, and discussing the chest they have on a coffee table in our living room. ^^
Having established that, I also Submitted a MAP to my group, #Pirates-guild . A couple of things of note.
-1: the map was a poster that came with a computer-game I bought recently; and it's the only thing of any value. THE GAME IS CRAP. AVOID IT. It's "Age of Pirates 2: City of Abandoned Ships." The controls are awkward as all hell.
-2: Background for it is stock from ~Camo-Stock, who did a damn good job.
Now, regarding the group, I have a plan formed in my head about what I am going to do:
1: Focus on the OCBC aspect of it. The reason why other pirate fan-groups fell flat like bad Voodoo Rootbeer was because besides standard contests and fan pics of Jack Schparra, there wasn't much holding it up. If I try to maybe add the OCBC aspect to it; make people contribute their OWN pirates, and not Jack Sparrow-alikes, Make their own crews, and the like... The rest of it will fall into place.
a.- Make reference sheets, rules, backstory.
(things of note: the group itself is not just an Original Character Battle Community; It's also a pirate club.)
Reference sheets will include:
-Character profile Reference sheets (Pic, bio, you know the drill.
-Team Banner (or Crew Flag)
-Shop goods (some merchants may try to sell things to your character)
-And... a SHIP Template. More on that later.
Or if you're lost in regards to references, see [link] for an example of Team, Flag, and Shop References.
b. - Run this by Ultramix and co.
After a general backstory *is* established, along with reference sheets, and what not, I'll run it by the people in charge of SDL and SLI (or, SDL Europe) , and see if I can garter their approval to make this a legit part of their universe.
... God willing there won't have to be anything Legal we have to buzz through. PiG is non-Profit. I'm just in it for the pirates.
c. After getting their approval, there will be promotion. 1 news article, a couple of Deviations/flyers... maybe a promo comic or two.
- In the event I don't get approval... well... shit. I made the damn group, I might as well go ahead and proceed with my intentions, and because it (hypothetically) isn't part of the SDL, Allow sea-Monsters, uncharted Islands, and exotic water-craft (see Scorpion-ships, switchblades, Turbines. READ. NO AIR-PIRATES.) Still up in the air about Anthromorphic characters, and limiting 'special Powers. Don't want anyone GOD-MODDING A MARY SUE.
So any questions or logical fallacies you see in my argument, let me know ASAP.

Oh, and if you want to try your hand at designing a template, or a Pirates Guild (PiG) Logo, by all means, go ahead. Send me a note, Recommend it for the group, or contribute it, and make sure it's in a .PSD or XCF (Gimp) format so I can look it over and read it or tweak it.
EDIT: I AM NOW =Evil-Jevil the Beta-Tester. TREMBLE BEFORE MY =GODLY STATUS AND BE =AFRAID.
